Ms. Bradford
My name is Katie Bradford. I discovered my love for art in one of my first art classes at Silver Valley High school which ultimately led me to pursuing art in college. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Fine Art from California State University Channel Islands. I was fortunate to have access to a phenomenal art program that allowed me to study many different mediums that include: digital design, photography, ceramics, set design, animation, life drawing, oil painting, and even welding in 3- dimensional art and sculpture. In my final semester, I was one of four chosen to paint a mural on Santa Rosa Island at the research station. To this day it is still one of my favorite projects. Currently I am working on finishing my master’s in Education with a focus on social emotional learning.
Art education helps build cultural awareness as students learn about art from different cultures which increase their understanding and appreciation of diversity. Art stimulates each student’s imagination and creativity as well as improving their motor skills. It also provides an outlet for students to express their feelings and emotions and can help them manage stress and improve their emotional well-being. Art allows for students to use problem solving skills, concentration, and self-expression. “What art is, in reality, is this missing link, not the link which exists. It's not what you see that is art; Art is the gap.” – Marcel Duchamp
